the biggest issue with Whitstable is parking

the biggest issue with Whitstable is parking or lack of parking. It almost seems as of the local council have gone out if their way to make parking difficult and in the process destroy the town centre. Potholes are another big problem.

Does Kent have the best beaches?

I think Kent has the potential to have wonderful beaches. The issue we have is education about what it means to be caretakers of beaches - and by that I mean locals and visitors. I am not familiar with Thanet beaches - aside from Joss Bay where my friends occassionally surf. But the thing that strikes me about that beach is the "community" aspect - Dave Melmoth of www.jossbay.co.uk has done some wonderful things in making the beach something people want to go to and take responsibility for. I think that's what's missing - taking ownership and pride in our...Read more

How can we get cleaner beaches?

Investigating how other seaside tourist areas handle the litter problem; I asked my uncle who has been a resident of Southend for many years. He cycles the seafront each morning and sees an army of litter pickers cleaning the beaches before the rest of the word wakes up. The council also provide giant wheely bins evenly spaced every 100 meters along the seafront The answer to you question about "How can we keep our beaches clean" is unfortunately "Money", lots of it! Being a teacher I also thought about the possibility about local schools taking the little monkeys on detention...Read more

Whitstable needs the tourists but how can we get them to clean ou...

Whitstable is a wonderful destination for tourists: we have a working harbour, great shops and very popular beaches. Tourists bring much needed trade and income to the town. But as we head into the high season, they also bring something else: trash. And lots of it. Bottles, instant BBQs, packaging, half-eaten burgers, plastic cups, even nappies (!) have been cleared up from the main beaches of Whitstable by people like myself in the last 48 hours. The paid for-beach cleaners do their best, but the amount of trash is really shocking. So I want to know: how can we encourage...Read more

Heart discovered at Royal Mail

Earlier in the year I did some work developing a new product for Royal Mail. To help out I did it on the basis that we would have to wait until November to charge it. Had a phone call from client today who is keen to settle the cost as soon as possible. Good on you mate. Just confirms there is a heart in BT

Shhh! don’t tell anyone!

I hate to let the secret out, but I had the pleasure of visiting the "Butcher’s Arms" in Herne last weekend. Thought to be one of the smallest independent pubs in the country it oozes character and old fashioned pub charm. Add great beers served in a traditional way with good conversation from a dedicated bunch of regulars and you have the recipe for a pub drink as you remember it years ago. Remember though, he converted butcher’s shop is not very big, so please don’t tell your friends!

Hey ken that sounds really nice. I'm based just outside Rochester so I will definitely drive to Herne to try it out.

Lovely place to eat

I love Cafe Mauresque, it i down a little side street called Butchery Lane. The food is excellent and I am a vegetarian and its very nice, been there many times with different people and everyone has enjoyed the food. It is set over three floors whereby all the floors are used in busy times. Prices are reasonable and they do some really good lunch time deals and I think if you are a student you can even get a discount here.

Herne Bay is a neglected gem on he north Kent coast. The promenade and seafront are a delight, and the sunsets some of the best you will see - anywhere in the world. The pace of life is slow nd the quality high.
